Code requires the following:
A carbon monoxide (CO) detector next to any gas appliance (the oven in the kitchen)
Recommended carbon Mnoxide detector location:
1 in the Kitchen or Living Room close to the kitchen.
A smoke detector in every bedroom.
We also recommend installing a smoke detector in the hallway, in case you leave your bedroom door(s) closed, and smoke accumulates in the living room or hallway area and would not reach the bedroom smoke detector in time.
Please note that if you place the hallway smoke detector too close to the bathroom, steam from showers might trigger the smoke detector. Ideally, the additional recommended smoke detector should be at the far end of the living room where the hallway begins.
Recommended smoke detector locations:
1 in each bedroom
1 in living room or hallway
We also recommend you purchase 10-year battery smoke detectors. If you have maintenance replace your smoke detector batteries, it will be cheaper to purchase the 10-year ones.
Test your smoke detectors monthly.
